It is Tuesday mid-day here in Samfya. We had a medical clinic yesterday and saw about 120 people. It took a while for the word to get out, but it got pretty busy in the afternoon. At 5pm, we had to give out numbers for people to come back this morning. When we arrived at 8am this morning, there were already about 50 people waiting for us. The line quickly grew to about 100 people and has remained that way all morning. They keep asking if we will be able to see everyone and we tell them that we will try our best! They also are asking why we have to leave... we really wish we could stay and do a few more days of clinic!! But, they are very appreciative of the care we are giving.
Yesterday, we bought 6 bibles that are in the local Bemba language and were able to give them to new believers. One man had been a believer for many years, but had not owned a bible. When Kem gave him the bible, he got off his chair and on his knees with thanksgiving flowing from his mouth! It was so precious. He then went outside with his bible and started telling everyone about it...I think his new occupation will be as a preacher of the good news!! We wish we had more bibles, but there are none in their language here in town. We will probably leave some money for the local pastor to go buy some more later.
Dell and Bill keep joking about the 'big 5' of medical complaints here in Samfya - (instead of the big 5 animals of africa - Lion, cheetah, elephant, rhino & buffalo...) the big five in medicine are head, eyes, chest pain, back pain and leg pain. :-)
I have really enjoyed working in the pharmacy and keeping Dell and Bill in line! I know it speeds up their process to have the meds ready and organized for them. Mom and Jacque have been a big help in the pharmacy as well. Jacque has been making balloon animals for the children yesterday and today and that has been a big hit!
I better get back to the clinic. Can't wait to share the pictures with you all later. The people have been so nice and appreciative of us being here.
We are leaving tomorrow morning to fly to Livingstone to go see Victoria Falls - while I am excited about seeing one of the 7 wonders of the world, I wish we could do 2 more days of medical clinic instead... there is always next time!
Happy Birthday to Kimmie!!
Thanks for your prayers and support. We are anxious to share more stories with you when we get home.
